Windows Vista Service Pack 1 Beta is available to Beta testers through Windows Update. Experience the WU installation path for Windows Vista SP1 by following 4 simple steps and give us your feedback to improve our quality.
Windows Vista SP1 distributed through Windows Update will be applicable to Windows Vista machines that are running on one of or a combination of the following languages: English, German, Japanese, French and Spanish. If you have any other languages installed on your system, Windows Update will not offer you Windows Vista SP1.
If you already installed the Service Pack to your machine by using the standalone package, you must uninstall Beta before you can be offered SP1 through WU.Systems running on Windows Vista RTM require as many as three updates before SP1 can be installed.
These updates are permanent to your Windows Vista systems. Therefore if you have already installed the Beta build by using standalone SP1 package, even after uninstalling SP1 (KB936330), these packages will remain on your system running on Windows Vista.
Based on the state of your system, Windows Update will offer you all the applicable prerequisite packages and SP1 in a sequential order.
How to do:
Copy and paste blow code into notepad and save it as SP1BetaRK_ext.cmd and then simply double click on it to merge it into the registry.
@echo off
reg add HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\VistaSp1 /v Beta1 /t REG_SZ /d a2c3c14a-9586-4d37-9aaa-79fbd64069d2 /f
reg add HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\VistaSP1 /v Beta1 /t REG_SZ /d a2c3c14a-9586-4d37-9aaa-79fbd64069d2 /f echo Vista SP1 registry key has been set. Please check for updates in Windows Update.Done! Now you can check for updates and download them.
NOTE: If you already installed the Service Pack to your machine by using the standalone package, you must uninstall Beta before you can be offered SP1 through WU. You will have to reactivate Vista. You can use existing Product Key or Vista Activator.
Thanks to: Luthian who was the first who leaked this trick beginning of the month.
14-10-07 - Updated Additional Information:
Once you are done with the installation of Service Pack 1 for Windows Vista you will a see a tiny but irritating Watermark at the bottom right corner of your Dekstop saying ‘Evaluation copy, Build 6001′. If you want to get rid of the watermark follow the instructions below :
- Download this Zip file (RemoveWatermark.zip). Extract it in any convenient location.
- Install watermark_fix.reg file
- Take ownership of user32.dll.mui file in C:\Windows\System32\en-US\
- Rename file to user32.dll.mui.bak
- copy downloaded user32.dll.mui to folder
- Reboot!
- Voila! The Watermark is now gone.
